Quick Aid - a first Android app
The Google-led Open Handset Alliance launched a competition for the most interesting Android applications at the end of 2007. April 14, 2008 was the deadline for all participants in the Android Developer Challenge. Tojio developed a mobile first aid application for future Google phones as an entry in the competition.
The cell phone is always with you
Medical emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time. Very few people are prepared to intervene: According to the German Red Cross, around 80 percent of all Germans have attended a first aid course - but on average this was 15 years ago. An as yet unpublished study by emergency physician Jan Breckwoldt from Berlin's Charité hospital shows that After all, 66 percent of first aiders recognize when a cardiac or respiratory arrest is present. But only 12.5 percent initiate meaningful resuscitation. (Source: Spiegel Online)
Quick Aid App
With this in mind, we decided to create Quick Aid, a first aid application for cell phones. Quick Aid has to be installed once on a cell phone and then accompanies the owner everywhere and can be used at any time. The first version of Quick Aid was developed for the upcoming Google cell phone as a competition entry in the Android Developer Challenge of the Open Handset Alliance. Further versions using special functions such as GPS and Google Maps (Where am I? Where can I get help?) are being planned. Furthermore, the realization of an iPhone version of Quick Aid is planned as well as the use of audio, video and websites.
