The week of climate adaptation
Event management and website for a national event week
Climate Adaptation Week takes place every year. The events (online, presence, hybrid) show the entire spectrum of climate adaptation in Germany.
Climate adaptation stakeholders in Germany can register as partners on the website and publish their own events. The partner entry and, above all, the events are visible to visitors on a map of Germany. However, they can also be found using filter criteria (date, federal state, topic, online, presence, hybrid, ...). Participation is open to everyone.
The event area, the heart of the site, is enriched with a wealth of content in the form of videos, interviews, practical examples and news. There is also a chat and practical examples as user-generated content (currently still in closed beta).
Climate Adaptation Week was initiated by the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUV) and is run by the Center for Climate Adaptation (ZKA)
.
Atomic Design
SASS, Node.js & Gulp are used to build the theme efficiently and according to atomic design principles.
The event week is intended to showcase the entire spectrum of climate adaptation in Germany and make it visible to the general public. Above all, however, the aim is for the stakeholders themselves to network and share best practices.
As climate adaptation is a long-term national joint task, the event week takes place annually. The registrations as partners are valid and the aim is to ensure that participants and, above all, organizers and best practice providers will participate repeatedly.
In addition to the goal of creating a solution that can be used again every year, it was also important to design the processes regarding user management (partner registration, best practice providers), the publication of events and their reviews (notifications) by the project team as well and efficiently as possible.
Optimized registration & content creation by external users
The partners and content suppliers should be brought into action as quickly as possible: To this end, we have used the Drupal module "ECA" to shorten the registration process so that an account is created and activated when a webform is submitted, and the corresponding role (depending on the form, "partner" or "practical example provider") is assigned. Users are sent a login link and can then create content directly. The content created in this way is of course not yet published and is subject to an internal review process. The employees of the Climate Adaptation Week are informed after each submission of content (again implemented with ECA). Content creators also receive email updates on the status of their content (in review / published).

Partner administration & event management
In contrast to the usual user group of editors, a solution had to be created here for the coordinators of the numerous sub-events in order to keep track of and manage partners and events as simply as possible. To this end, views are used that filter out different segments (e.g. partners who have not yet published an event so that they can be contacted again individually, for example). All data collected for this purpose can also be exported.
Digital accessibility & GDPR
Strict accessibility and GDPR requirements apply to the Ministry of the Environment as the client. These were taken into account in the design and data handling.
