Drupal User Group Lake Constance

1st meeting in 2014

In 2014, the meetings of the Drupal User Group Lake Constance will take place regularly towards the end of each quarter at the Technologiezentrum Konstanz. The first meeting this year will take place on Friday, March 28 from 17:30. Against the background of the upcoming release of Drupal 8, two presentations will deal with the following questions:

  1. What does a platform for a modern web presence have to achieve and on what basis should a decision be made for or against a particular system?
  2. How can content be optimally structured during the planning of a web project and ultimately implemented as data structures in the CMS? Both presentations are explicitly aimed at anyone without a technical background who wants to stay up-to-date and who is interested in content management at a high level with long-term added value. The presentations are therefore also of interest to website operators or those responsible for projects in the planning stage if they are not (yet) using Drupal or another CMS. New faces are always welcome!

This first event is dedicated to the key questions listed above because they are so important in practice. At the same time, website operators are often hardly aware of the importance of these issues and the additional effort (but also added value) involved is difficult to communicate. In fact, there are considerable benefits to be gained from a highly customized content management system.

Overview of content management systems and decision-making aids

In the first presentation, Jürgen Haas will provide clients and operators of web projects with the questions they need to ask in order to develop the best solution for their individual problem. They will learn what investments to expect and how they can be recouped. Developers and users will gain insights into the latest innovations and changes.

The content model - content management done right

In the second presentation, I will discuss content models - and the reasons for their unfortunately frequent absence. Many site operators are satisfied as soon as they have a Microsoft Word-like editor at hand with which they can seemingly do anything. This "solution" apparently gives you the flexibility to do anything you want - but the actual potential that lies in a well-configured content management system that is adapted to the specific needs of the website and its operator is nipped in the bud. The actual content is degraded to useless wastes of lead, and integration into a CMS - to put it somewhat exaggeratedly - could actually have been avoided.

"

The challenge is figuring out how to decompose a site full of inflexible HTML blobs into discrete, bite-sized fields.

"

Jeff Eaton

In the course of the presentation, I will explain how to plan and design a well thought-out content model. It will be clarified how the content model is translated into data structures and represented in a CMS. Finally, I will show how the interaction of individual components of content works and the many ways in which you can benefit from such a content model in the long term.

The Drupal Usergroup Bodensee lecture series in 2014 is a joint initiative of Paragon and Tojio. This and upcoming events throughout the year will be supported by the Technology Center Constance by providing the conference room (main entrance, 1st floor) - thank you very much!
