The rapid change in market share on the Internet
10 year review
Few industries are as dynamic as the digital economy, both in terms of software and hardware. The once undisputed market leader quickly becomes a loser and a small start-up becomes a billion-dollar hype company within just a few years. The speed at which such things happen is enormous and leaves you both speechless and fascinated. The following infographic (PDF version) from Kissmetrics clearly illustrates the rapid changes over the last 10 years.
Facts and statistics:
- Google Chrome, rather than Microsoft's Internet Explorer, is now the most widely used internet browser.
- Despite a slight downward trend, Windows 7 remains the most widely used operating system with a market share of almost 52%.
- Facebook eclipses everything when it comes to social networks: Almost 1.2 billion users are active. In comparison: Twitter has 200 million active users.
