The official Drupal 8 logo was introduced.
Drupal 8 is about to be released. The eagerly awaited latest version of the open source CMS framework Drupal is set to be released later this year. The creation of the new logo, however, has already been completed. It was presented by Dries Buytaert at the Drupal conference in Prague:
Drupal 8 logo in flat design
The new Drupal 8 logo has a flat design look. Flat design is currently very much in vogue. After being launched by Microsoft (Windows 8) as a response to Apple's skeuomorphic user interfaces, it is currently enjoying great popularity, especially in the field of web design. The recently released iOS by star designer Jonathan Ive also relies on flat design. The fact that usability sometimes falls by the wayside remains to be seen. In any case, good logos should always be as reduced, minimalist and striking as possible. Everything else, such as a 3D look, is just a passing fad, nothing more.
For this reason, the design of the new Drupal 8 logo follows the right path. The comic-like appearance of the Druplicon has been rationalized away. What has remained is the shape of the drop, which houses a clearly legible eight. Overall, the logo (word/figurative mark, i.e. font + symbol) makes a simple, serious and therefore now mature impression. This correlates with the development of Drupal into a large, powerful open source enterprise CMS.
Drupal 8: Everything new = everything better?
We will soon be reporting in detail here in the Tojio blog on the changes and new possibilities that Drupal 8 brings from a technical perspective. In any case, the new version is a big step forward. From a technical point of view, this is an advantage - after all, the Internet is developing extremely quickly, so the more advanced the better. Less pleasing, however, is the fact that an update from Drupal 7 to 8 will not be possible without further ado. Furthermore, the many changes also require time-consuming training.
Preview of Drupal 8
In May, the DrupalCon 2013 took place in Portland. In his keynote, Dries Buytaert showed this video, which shows new features of Drupal 8 for users as well as for developers.
